History & Status of the Fishery
Ida Lake is a 79-acre lake located three miles northeast of Winsted in Wright County. The lake has a maximum depth of 26 feet with an average summer water clarity of three feet. A public access maintained by the Winsted Sportsman's Club is located on the northeast side of the lake. The access has limited parking along the road for three vehicle/trailer combos. A standard survey was conducted in 2022 to update fisheries data last collected in 2006.
The highlight for Ida Lake is its Largemouth Bass fishery. Bass are abundant in the lake and can provide some fun fishing action. Although the average size of bass is just under 11 inches, there are opportunities to catch fish up to 19 inches. Much of the lake's perimeter provides good bass fishing along the water lily fringe. Other fish species in the lake are on the smaller side. Anglers looking for constant action could take advantage of the lake's sunfish populations. Bluegill abundance is high, but most are in the five and six-inch range. No Bluegill over seven inches were observed during this survey. Black Crappie are present in low numbers. Those observed ranged in length from five to nine inches. Northern Pike are present in modest numbers and ranged in length from 13 to 28 inches with an average length and weight of 24 inches and 2.5 pounds. Other species sampled during the survey include Brown Bullhead, Common Carp, Golden Shiner, Hybrid Sunfish, Pumpkinseed, and Yellow Bullhead.
