History & Status of the Fishery
Lake Two Fifty-four is an 8.5 acre lake located approximately six miles east of Isabella, MN. Access is by an unmarked foot path for 0.1 mile; north of U.S. Forest Service Road 172. The lake is surrounded by federal land and the shoreline is in a natural state.Conditions in Lake Two Fifty-four are considered marginal for stream trout, with shallow water, high summer temperatures, and a dense yellow perch population. Nevertheless, fair numbers of brook trout were sampled, including a small number of quality-size fish. The average size was 10.7 inches; however, fish up to 15.2 inches (2.5 lb) were sampled.The lake is scheduled to be stocked with brook trout fingerlings every even year; however, if it is determined that these stockings do not provide a suitable fishery stocking will be discontinued.Lake Two Fifty-four is not a designated trout lake, but the open season, possession limit, size limit, transportation, and other stream trout regulations found under the stream trout "Lakes" section of the Minnesota Fishing Regulations apply.
