Found Lake is a designated stream trout lake located approximately 18 miles NE of Ely in the BWCAW. The landscape is covered by abundant birch and balsam fir with a rolling terrain of rock with other coarse soils.
There is a short 30 rod portage from Newfound Lake and one designated USFS campsite is located near the portage. Found Lake is popular with anglers in summer and winter seasons. Brook trout fingerlings are stocked on an alternate year basis (odd numbered years).
Brook trout numbers in 2015 (11.0/gill net) were similar to the long term average for all surveys on this lake. The average brook trout sampled was 13.5 inches long and about 1.3 lbs in weight which is also similar to the historic average. The largest brook trout sampled was 17.7 inches long. Stomach samples indicated that brook trout were feeding on minnows and a variety of aquatic insects.
