Started fishing around 7:30 am on Sunday the 3rd. Found lots of fish-in 18-24 feet of water. Most fish were small sunfish with an occasional crappie. Only one crappie over 9”s though. No sunfish over 7”. Was fun to fish a new lake for me. Amazing how fast and high some fish would chase the lures.

Ice is slightly over 10 inches thick and the pannies are fairly small. Caught some crappies and bluegills on fake waxies and minnow heads. The fish favored the brighter color lures. We caught most of the fish in the 18-15 FOW range. Some fish shot up from as shallow as 6 FOW.

Had issues with my camera, so I couldn't get any videos.... , but the fishing wasn't that great anyways! Ice is about 10 inches thick and the locals are riding atvs and sleds on it. The water looked somewhat stained and I found that the crappies wanted the bright or glowing lures. Fishing in about 30 FOW I found them to hit at 24 to 18 FOW. Sometimes they will chase my lure at 10 FOW. Lots of action, but the fish were small.

Got out on Lake Virginia this afternoon with the wife! Quite a few people were out enjoying the mild weather. Makes great bucket fishing! The ice came to about 4.5 inches and was super clear. We sat on 32 fow on the outside edge of the hole and caught crappies in the 15-20 fow range. Some crappies even hit at 6 fow! The largest crappie was 11 inches caught by the Mrs.

The beautiful weather this morning allowed me to explore more of the lake and do some hole hopping . The pan fish were hitting in all spectrum's of the water column. Some as shallow as 5 FOW and some down to 25 FOW. Definitely had to work for this fish to bite and most of them were soft biters.
I wandered off a bit on the eastern shoreline in search of weed lines and ended up catching little perch on 7 FOW. Lures of choice were rattlin flying spoons natural colors tipped with minnow heads. It seemed like bright colors spooked the fish a bit.
Yes I am getting on from the boat launch parking lot on smithtown road. If you walk right towards the lake from the parking lot, you are going right to the hole of the lake. Good luck!
Are you getting on the lake from Smith Road Parking lot? I am visiting my sister, who just moved into the area, this weekend and I am looking for a place to catch a few with limited time. Thank you

First time out ice fishing this season! I drilled into ice that was 7 inches thick and sat on the edge of the main hole at about 24-25 FOW. The water is still very warm at about 38-39 degrees. Boy were the pan fish hitting this morning! The crappies were hitting a many levels of the water column. Some were even as shallow as 6 FOW! Using almost any jig, plastics, and minnow heads I was able to pull out over a dozen 10-11 inch size crappies! I had a few little gills here and there. Man I love Lake Virginia in the winter! I will be back to sit on the deeper drop offs in the hole to target some northern pike .
Thanks. Honestly the lake seems to have a decent bite on it all season. I feel like there is some pressure on the lake near spring, but otherwise they bite consistently
Nice videos. Looks like fun. Does that lake get heavy pressure later once the ice is thicker? Thinking it may be better to target early ice.
