Hey guys, I was wondering if someone could give me some general advice about sturgeon fishing on the river. Like any regulations I should know about because I’m having a hard time finding stuff online. Thanks

Are you accessing from MN or WI side?   Bayport has a couple access points by foot in the park or driving behind the town homes on the ice road to WI.   Many cars and trucks on the ice now.     Ice around 15"s.  On the south end of Bayport on Highway 95 you will see the entrance to 5th Avenue South on the east side of the road. There is a Bayport sign on a limestone rock and a large sign for Clyde’s.

Turn east onto 5th Avenue South but don’t enter the marina but instead stay to the left and travel down 5th Avenue South to the T intersection with 3rd Street South.

You will need to take a right turn on 3rd Street South and cross over the railroad tracks. Note the Dead End sign with the smaller “Road Open to River” sign under it.

Can anyone tell me what the ice depth is and where the best place to access is?  I would like to take my son out to try to catch a sturgeon through the ice.  Thanks

Yesterday afternoon i was on the river near interstate park from PM. The sun was out, there were a few clouds and a slight breeze but it felt good. I brought a scoop of minnows fairly large sized ones. second cast i caught a small northern pike, then another almost back to back, id say ten or so minutes after that i had a minnow sitting on a sinker straight out maybe thirty feet and i landed a nice size northern 28 inch. After that first couple things slowed up and nothing till sundown. Around eight, nine i pulled in a couple medium sized walleye (catch and release) i know the water is cold but these fish are hungry I'm thinking next week will be even better.

had 2 buddies of mine go up last weekend they kept 15 a piece but they said small gold hooks under a float 3-6 foot off bottom from 3p.m. til 6p.m. then 9p.m. til around 1a.m. their vex did the christmas tree effect. i personally go up way early when i go to bayport i fish from 4a.m. til 8a.m. and the crappie run a little bigger as well. also try frostee jigging spoons or blue tungsten jigs tipped with bright plastics or spikes on the spoons should have some luck doing that. Cool

Fished from 2 PM till 5:30 and had one white bass jigging. Wasnt much action other than that. We set up 5 tip-ups and didnt have a flag. Was wondering what everyone else was doing? Anything that seems to be working?
