Trout streams in Southeast Minnesota are in great condition right now and there is no better time than now to take advantage of this amazing fishery.  I was able to get out after work this week and had a great time catching browns using plastics.  Streams are getting pressured but if your willing to walk you can find excelent action!

Water is clear, but fishing was tough.  Fished just a short time, kept 2, lost a few.  Spring birds were great, but with the snow on the ground and the fact that it was the opener, heavy pressure.  Will get back out soon.  All on spinners.  Did better a few weeks ago with the catch and release season.  Caught 16 the one time.  But, no pressure...

We took advantage of the late catch and release trout fishing before the rain came.  The North Branch of the Whitewater River was high and fast but still fishable.  Spinners and Rapalas were our baits of choice.  Check out some of the action below!

Over the last week I have fished three different streams in SE Minnesota and I will say that fishing has been great.  Some of the farmland streams got a bit dirty after the snow melted but are returning to a very fishable condition.  The upper reaches of streams are clear and the fishing is great.  I was able fish one of my favorites this week and had some great action.  Get out there before the weeds get tall and the bugs get bad.  Absolutely the best time of the year the fish the streams of SE Minnesota.

Got out on a stretch of the root myself last weekend, water running clear-didn't try hard, was fishing with my 4 year old, but had fun and look forward to getting out again soon.  Nice video, lots of options on lures-I prefer crankbaits-but jig looks fun.

I fished the South Fork of the Root River on Sunday and the action was good.  Water clarity was very good. It was a nice day which brought out the fishermen.  I encountered six different fisherman during my time fishing.  It did not prevent me from catching some fish.  Check out some of the action below!

Tried to find fish able water. The foot of snow plus rain caused streams to be unbelievably high and muddy. Fourth stream I checked was semi fish able but couldn't manage a bite. Will wait another three or four days before fishing again.

Fished a smaller stream yesterday on the western edge of the SE streams, only a little over an hour to fish-kept 3 12" and released another 4 small browns. Didn't like the crank baits-so spinners were better. Clear for now. Will get out on a different stream this weekend.

trout fishing is still good. however, they have been pressured at all the easy to get to spots. its been a good morning and evning bite. if you head out and hit the easy spots catch one and done, move on. red worms and are nightcrawlers ok. i've been seeing the bigger trout swim up to them sniff and dive for cover. if ya can still get maggots left over from ice season they've been great for the worm sniffers. still getting them on small spinners. best bet to get the big ones is to take a long walk away from the hard fished waters.
