We were up 8/26 - 8/30. Very slow for us on walleye and that was all we fished. Not on the reefs like we are used to this time of year. Based on the COs that stopped us it sounds like it has been slow most of the summer up there. Hopefully things are getting better with this fall weather. Best luck for us, not that it's saying much, was on bottom bouncers with a floater and crawler rig. Jigs produced almost nothing, same for jigging/rippin raps.

Hope you have a better trip than we did!

My fishing partner and I are coming to Rainy Lake this weekend and spending a week there.  Our Canada trip was cancelled of course.

Can anyone give me some insight on the fishing?  Pike? Smallmouth? Walleye? Crappie?  I hear there are no Musky on the US side.  I don't understand this, but several sources have told me this, so instead of targeting Musky, I guess we are going to try and CPR some nice Pike.

PM's welcome and I appreciate the help greatly!!!

Coming up on the 15th of August and looking for Crappies if anyone wants to point me in a ggod direction that would be helpful.  Rainy is a really impressive body of water with amazing structure and a guy could get lost looking for crappies on the lake.

Fished Rainy earlier this week on Tues.-Wed. Lots of may flies  meant fish that weren't too hungry . They were there tho' , and, if they were off the bottom , they were feeding . 1/8th oz. jigs and leeches did the trick .

Fished with Donnie O'Bert from Rainy Daze guide service , great person to spend a day in the boat with !

Why are all these Minnesota fisherman assholes? No respect for other fisherman. Very rude and don't know how to operate there boat on the water.

Fished on Monday with Capt Matt of Rainydaze guide service . Raw account east winds and occasional drizzle but, did well over wood in 19-20 fow for crappies and walleyes .  Great eating too ! 1/8 oz jigs and minnows did the job .

Sorry for the late report. Fishing was a bit of a struggle as the mayfly hatch was still going. Fish were scattered all over the place. We would catch a few and they would be gone (guess thats how it goes on Rainy). We never locked into them.

Our best luck by far was with crawlers (half usually) with orange spinner/colors.

Cast gold spinners/colors were best.

Purple crank baits got a few northerns trolling.

Biggest eye was 22 inches. Guess the fishing was picking up when we were leaving.

We were not finding fish on the reefs last week (July 7-13, 2018). They were in deeper flats where there was a good amount of moving water (either wind or current) with access to deep water. We marked a ton of fish but they just wanted something that mimicked the mayfly hatch.

We fished pretty hard a enjoyed the heck out of the lake but never dialed into the fish. Also enjoyed Island View Lodge.

Good luck all.
