Was out just east of Stony Point on 12/23, 12/24, and 12/27. Solid 12-15 inches of ice, some smaller cars/trucks were driving out on Sun/Mon. Caught a few nice walleye, and a ton of very small perch. Plenty of marks, seems like most fish were hugging the bottom. Mainly using waxies on smaller jigs, walleye liked the buckshot.

Dreary, drizzly, windy morning gave me a reason to head over to Pokie. Only caught three walleyes, but one was a 27"er. Also caught a half dozen nice smallies. All I did today was fish a Northland Gami jig tipped with minnows.

Just a fun, relaxing morning! September's in the air.

Largemouth fishing was fair of the 4th of July weekend on Pokegama. Fish were taken on deep weed lines 15-18ft. using northland impulse smelt minnow's. The impulse smelt are very similar to the real smelt on Pokegama that most of the fish use as a staple food there. A few walleye's, plenty of northerns and an occasional smallie were taken on the smelt minnow as well. A tip for anyone fishing Poke, always fish the windy side of anything, especially if it's blowing pretty good. Have good fishing! Smile

Great weekend to be on the lake. Sunshine, blue skies and a little bit of wind made our time on the water enjoyable.

We are still concentrating on the deeper bodies of water in the Grand Rapids Area. Fish are moving out onto the secondary shoreline breaks and some are even showing up on mid lake structures. We are spending a lot of time in search mode but once fish are marked we are pulling a single hook Roach Rig tipped with a crawler at .7mph.

After hooking 1 or 2 fish you will quickly find out fish are on the move so going back into search mode is a must. Have a great week on the water.

Today was a beautiful day on the water. Lots of action. I was rigging with a crawler in 18 to 25 feet of water. Crawlers seem to be the ticket on Pokegama.

Today was a great bite for walleye. Bright colored jigs and crawlers were the ticket today. They were biting light and I caught most of them in about 20 to 25 feet.

I have been on Poke the past few weekends in prep for the Cabela's NABC tourney on June, 1. The smallies started sluggish pre-spawn on opening weekend and started to stage a bit by last weekend. We caught many smallies 2.5-4.25 lbs. using northland slurpies dip-stick worms and rapala x-raps in the 5-9 ft. sand edge of larger main-lake sand flats. The next few weeks will see the fish move to the shallows to find their spawning grounds on the main lake. The fish wanted a very slow presentation due to the cold water conditions but should be heating up soon. Look for great smallie and largemouth action on Poke soon! Results from the NABC tour tourney can be found on Cabela's NABC website. Check out all the high quality fish that were caught in less than perfect conditions. This proves that Poke is one of the best bass lakes in MN!! Wink

Spent the last to days fishing Pokie for smallies, and a few bonus walleyes. We found the fish starting to school up pretty good, with most of our fish coming off deeper rocky points, and humps. We also caught a fair number relating to huge flats surrounded by deep water. Presentation was rigging with crawlers, and jigging with golden shiners. Both produced about the same. We even caught a big whitefish.

pokie's a great body of water with potential for huge fish, well worth your effort, plus it's close to some great shopping and food in Grand Rapids.

Fishing continues to to get better in the Grand Rapids Area. Many of our lakes are deeper colder bodies of water such as Pokegama and Sugar, generally don't begin to warm up till the second week of June. However, Pokegama Lake's surface water temperature is in the low 60s and fish are starting to feed. Walleye can be found on shallower shoreline structure pulling blades and bouncers but a much better bite is taking place in 22' using a 7' Roach Rig tipped with a leech. While searching the other day for a good walleye bite we were able to find a descent smallmouth and jumbo perch bite also. Both were found in 8' of water where vegetation is starting to grow up in sandy areas. Our best presentation for both was a light jig tipped with an Impulse Jigging Leech. Its early in the season so there is a lot more to look forward to. Hope to see you on the water.
