Another pool 6 backwater report: Fished 2-20-21 with minimal success. Some suspended crappie but no size. Really needed to downsize the presentation to get bites. Some small perch and bluegills. Fish were caught between 5-18'.
Fished pool 6 backwaters 2-13-21. Bite was light but they were willing. Caught many perch, gills and crappie but they were mostly small.

Ice is very uneven. Wanted to get out by Prairie Island spillway-did not trust the ice. Tried two other spots in the area. All were being hit hard by fishermen. All were courteous and kept reasonable distance. First spot, plenty of small gills.
Then, tried for 2 hours drilling holes in a new spot. Found fish finally, just really tough bite. Gills, had to get their attention then hold still. Finally caught a few. Camera showed tons of shad , some walleye, bass, and carp, and the gills. Could have kept all of 2 gills the whole day. Will try again soon.
Fishing for bass on Pool 5a was good to me last week. If you like frogging look for mixed vegetation with duckweed and good flow. If you're more of an open water bass fisherman fish cut banks and points near the main channel and larger secondary channels with good flow. Flow is key! The river is in great shape! Good luck!
See nobodies posting. If anybody sees this was wondering where to get started on catching bass down here
Wow, no activity on this forum for two years....That was unexpected.
