Targeted bass from 6 pm - 9 pm around the banks in 4-6 ft of water on the big lake. Caught 5 using a drop shot but all less than a pound if even. I couldn't believe how there were no weeds on the lake. I thought I read they treated the small lake for curly tail weeds this year but maybe it was both? Fish caught were super white making me think they don't have anywhere for cover. Water temp 85 degrees. Keep fishing, never stop.

I grew up in Winona but haven't fished Lake Winona in many years.  With hip boots, a light action rod and a few jigs I headed out to the lake for some spawning bluegill action.  What I found was pleasantly surprising!

7 years since last post.  I was hoping to see how the fishing has been on the lake.  I used to fish it as a kid back before they killed it off and restocked it.  hahaha.

I had heard that with the dredging, things had really started to come along in the lake.

Tried big Lake Winona on Saturday during the middle of the day. A few bites-but not much. Was in 30 ft to 10 ft of water, caught gills and crappie suspended-but less than a dozen fish for 4 hours of fishing. It aws take a kid fishing day with the DNR so I hope they were catching a few more than we.

Tried Saturday around 1:30 pm for an hour on the Big Lake Winona. Lot of guys driving out-lake was good for driving. Drilled about 50 holes in the depths looking for fish, marking a few near the bottom. Not a single bite in an hour and with the wind-gave up. Will try again later this winter.

There are good crappies in here. Went last year and did well sometimes. I hear that is what people are doing around/after dark. With the weather-not going out there anytime this week.

Anyone been out lately. Drove by twice today and saw atleast a dozen vehicles on the ice and a lot of them out there after five o'clock still. Crappies?

Are there actually bluegill in Lake Winona now worth keeping? I grew up in Winona and I remember you could catch all the 3 oz sunnies you wanted to. I don't ever recall catching anything worth even keeping as far as sunnies went. You could catch a pile of them, but never anything big. We did catch a lot of nice bass and catfish in that lake though.

We always used to do well on sunnies on Bartlett's lake.

Went back out on lake winona today and got completely skunked. There were a lot of people out there though and guys were saying that they had been catching a mixed bag of sunnies and crappies so who knows. maybe i just missed the bite. I didn't have minnows either so that probably didn't help. anyways i know a lot of people were out there today so lets get some reports going and let me know how you did and what you used.
