Iowa Great Lakes are fully iced up with conditions ranging from 18-22 inches. Recent temperatures have created safer ice conditions, allowing the use of some full sized vehicles, but people should still use caution and check conditions before driving out. Caution: there are still many seams throughout the lakes area as well as a few holes that have been kept open due to geese activity. The extended forecast calls for warmer temperatures again, so fishing should hopefully pickup.

Ice conditions are around 11 inches with an open hole on the north end caused by geese.

The walleye season is currently closed on Spirit, East Okoboji and West Okoboji Lake. are fully iced up with conditions ranging from 18-22 inches. Recent temperatures have created safer ice conditions, allowing the use of some full sized vehicles, but people should still use caution and check conditions before driving out. Caution: there are still many seams throughout the lakes area as well as a few holes that have been kept open due to geese activity.

Okoboji Winter Games will be in effect January 28-31 so many events and people are expected to be on the lakes. Iowa Great Lakes are fully iced up with conditions ranging from 13-14 inches. While recent temperatures have created safer ice conditions, the use of full sized vehicles is not recommended. Caution: there are still many seams throughout the lakes area. The extended forecast calls for continued below freezing temperatures.

Iowa Great Lakes are fully iced up with conditions ranging from 10-12 inches. Due to inconsistent freezing temperatures lately, many lakes may have irregular ice conditions as well as open holes. The use of full sized vehicles is not recommended. This weekend temperatures should begin to drop with highs in the upper teens and low 20s. This will hopefully create more consistent safe ice conditions throughout the great lakes area.

Iowa Great Lakes are fully iced up with conditions ranging from 10-12 inches. There are still many spots in the main basins that are somewhat thinner so use caution when going out. The use of full sized vehicles is not recommended. Remember to bring a form of ice picks, a form of flotation, and a friend. There is currently a blizzard advisory in affect till the end of Friday. This weekend temperatures should remain below freezing with highs being in the upper 20s and low 30s.

Iowa Great Lake water temperatures are around 42° or lower with a few areas icing over at night. After this week air temperatures are expected to be in the 30s to 40s. Most of the area hosts and docks have been pulled from the lakes in preparation of ice-up. The area Walleye bite has begun to pick up in many wadable areas off shore. The Yellow Perch bite has began to pick in many of the area lakes.

The rest of this weeks extended forecast calls for warmer temperatures this weekend, but next week temperatures are expected to be in the 60s to 70s. The area Walleye bite should start to pick up as water temperatures start to fall. The Yellow Perch Bite has began to pick in many of the area lakes.
