The family and I spent the last week fishing from shore while on vacation. Most of our success was on the north shore. We caught some nice gills and on the last day I just hammered the crappies using a little jig and twister tail. All of them were small, under 10 inches but it was a lot of fun, I caught 30 in about an hour or so, all of them are still swimming.

Been fishing a pond south side of lake for last 2 weeks, have not heard a boat or seen anyone on the lake so I dont think anybodys out there yet. Crappies I think are spawned out on the pond so it mite be prime time on the lake. Water temp is gettin warm quick.. KB

I am going to be in the area on vacation the first week of april and I was wondering if anyone could give me some general info on fishing in the area that time of year. Should I fish lakes or rivers, what is biting? etc. Feel free to pm me. Thanks

Hi Shorebound,

I spoke via email to the park manager and he said the lake was lowered several feet this fall and also treated with a small dose of rotenone to kill off the majority of the gizzard shad they found this summer. He also said the rotenone was "effective so far with small kills on sport fish". He suggested calling the DNR staff there (319-293-7185) or Troublesome Creek Outfitters (319-293-384Cool to get the most up-to-date information.

Hope this helps! Big Smile

I would like to know if anyone has been out here this winter. I read an article that stated the DNR poisoned the shad and also killed off some walleyes in the process. Has that also effected the panfish? Thanks in advance for any information you would be so kind to provide. I will be trying the fishing here soon and will report back how is was. Thanks again!
