Angling conditions are ideal as both interior rivers and trout streams remain in excellent condition. Area Black Hawk County lakes are producing catches of crappie. Anglers are catching crappie in George Wyth Lake.

Black Crappie - Fair: Fish 6-8 feet over structure using a crappie minnow under a slip bobber or jigging colored tube jigs.

Interior rivers bumped up with isolated rainfall events but are still providing some fair to good angling opportunities for smallmouth bass, walleye and channel catfish. Rivers should be in good condition for the upcoming weekend. Lakes are beginning to produce some crappie. Trout streams are in excellent condition and providing some insect hatches with the warmer weather. For further information contact your area bait and tackle shops.

Anglers are catching panfish and largemouth bass out of George Wyth Lake.

Black Crappie - Fair: Cast or vertical jig using colored tube jigs or crappie minnow under a slip bobber. Target the four to eight foot depth of water.

Largemouth Bass - Good: Try top water baits or spinner baits for largemouth bass, early morning or late evening hours are the best.

Anglers are doing a lot of bobber fishing for crappie on George Wyth Lake. With low water levels on the lake, use extreme caution in launching boat off of ramp.

Black Crappie - Fair: Fish from a boat over structure using a 1/64 ounce jig tipped with a waxworm or a crappie minnow under a bobber.

Ice thickness on most area lakes is most likely safe but with the recent warmer temps use extreme caution. Lakes in and around the Cedar Falls/Waterloo area are producing few catches of both bluegill and crappie but fishing has been slow. For further information contact your area bait and tackle shops. All field stations and fish hatcheries remain closed at this time, for further information contact the N.E. District Office at 563-927-3276.

Black Crappie - Fair: Try fishing a dead stick with a minnow on one rod and jigging an ice jig tipped with a waxworm or spike. Electronics are very helpful in locating suspended crappie.

Bluegill - Fair: Fish just off of the bottom with an ice jig tipped with a waxworm.

Northern Pike - Good: Anglers are catching some quality northern pike on tip-up rigs. Fish a live chub or shiner just off of the bottom for some great pike action.

There have been reports of anglers catching panfish and northern pike on George Wyth Lake. Please use extreme caution as there have also been reports of thin ice on areas of the lake with the recent warmer weather.
