Interior rivers bumped up with isolated rainfall events but are still providing some fair to good angling opportunities for smallmouth bass, walleye and channel catfish. Rivers should be in good condition for the upcoming weekend. Lakes are beginning to produce some crappie. Trout streams are in excellent condition and providing some insect hatches with the warmer weather. For further information contact your area bait and tackle shops.

Anglers have been catching crappie out of Brinker Lake.

Black Crappie - Good: Cast or vertical jig using colored tube jigs or crappie minnow under a slip bobber. Target the four to eight foot depth of water.

Northern Pike - Good: Try casting spinner baits for some good northern pike action.

Ice thickness on most area lakes is most likely safe but with the recent warmer temps use extreme caution. Lakes in and around the Cedar Falls/Waterloo area are producing few catches of both bluegill and crappie but fishing has been slow. For further information contact your area bait and tackle shops. All field stations and fish hatcheries remain closed at this time, for further information contact the N.E. District Office at 563-927-3276.

There have been a few reports of anglers catching crappie in Brinker Lake.

Black Crappie - Fair: Try fishing a dead stick with a minnow on one rod and jigging an ice jig tipped with a waxworm or spike. Electronics are very helpful in locating suspended crappie.

Fishing conditions are excellent on eastern Iowa streams, lakes and rivers following a period of moderate temperatures and dry weather. Access for boats may be difficult on some sections of river given lower stream and river flow. The crappie bite on area lakes in the Cedar Falls/Waterloo area are good to excellent. All trout hatcheries remain closed, for further information call 563-927-3276.

Reports for crappie on Brinker Lake have been good.
