Interior rivers bumped up with isolated rainfall events but are still providing some fair to good angling opportunities for smallmouth bass, walleye and channel catfish. Rivers should be in good condition for the upcoming weekend. Lakes are beginning to produce some crappie. Trout streams are in excellent condition and providing some insect hatches with the warmer weather. For further information contact your area bait and tackle shops.

Anglers have been catching crappie out of Big Woods Lake.

Black Crappie - Fair: Fish off of the jetties using colored tube jigs or crappie minnow under a slip bobber. Target the four to eight foot depth.

Lakes are beginning to produce some crappie. Trout streams are in excellent condition and providing some insect hatches with the warmer weather. Anglers have been catching some crappie on Big Woods Lake.

Interior rivers are in excellent condition and the month of October can provide some excellent angling opportunities. Anglers are beginning to catch some crappie on area lakes in and around Black Hawk County. Trout streams remain in excellent condition but rain is expected the next two days, for further information contact the N.E. District Office at 563-927-3276. All three trout hatcheries remain closed at this time and please call ahead to set up any appointments you may need.

Fishing conditions are excellent on eastern Iowa streams, lakes and rivers following a period of moderate temperatures and dry weather. Access for boats may be difficult on some sections of river given lower stream and river flow. The crappie bite on area lakes in the Cedar Falls/Waterloo area are good to excellent. All trout hatcheries remain closed, for further information call 563-927-3276.
