I have found the big ones early this spring. Caught 3 pounders twice one each venture in different spots. One was a fork tailed small mouth. Been out 2 times around the 21st street area. The blue gills are healthy and strong. The stream is healthy. I love this fishing spot
Good smallmouth fishing last week , on the beds now. Future looks good .
This year (2017) has been really slow. I have waded the creek around 20 times with only moderate success, 2016 was twice as good. Even the pesky rock bass are hard to come by. Of course it could be I'm a lousy fisherman, but it seems to be an off year.
Sugar Creek is the best smallmouth water I have ever seen. I am 66 and grew up on the creek. Fishing has never been better. Please do not go there unless you are strict catch and release.
