FISHING OUTLOOK
BLUEGILL
Very Good VERY GOOD
The Bluegill population offers excellent fishing for larger fish, reaching 7 inches or greater. In 2018, 8.2% of the catchable Bluegill population exceeded 7”.
CHANNEL CATFISH
Good GOOD
Too few Channel Catfish were sampled in the spring of 2018 to make an accurate evaluation of the fishery. Channel Catfish were last stocked by IDNR Fisheries in the fall of 2018. This fishery is maintained by supplemental stockings from IDNR Fisheries hatcheries. Stockings will occur on a biennial schedule, pending hatchery production.
LARGEMOUTH BASS
Very Good VERY GOOD
The Largemouth Bass numbers have increased over the last 10 years. The 2018 survey yielded a catch rate of 212 Largemouth Bass/hour of electrofishing. Fish less than 6” have been collected and based on the catch rates it is evident that reproduction and recruitment are strong. The size distribution of the bass collected looks good and fish are present in several year classes. Fish in the 10-14” range are exhibiting poor body condition (Wr = 89). An overcrowded bass fishery can produce better panfish fishing, and this holds true for Mt. Olive Old City Lake.

HISTORY AND STATUS OF FISHERY
The status of the fishery is good. Largemouth Bass numbers and size distribution are good. Many Bluegill are reaching 7 inches. The fish community in this lake should provide some good sport fishing opportunities. Other species collected during the 2018 population survey included Black Crappie, Golden Shiner, Green Sunfish, Redear Sunfish, Warmouth, and White Crappie. Redear Sunfish were collected during this survey and all measured over 7”, four of which measured over 8”. Black and White Crappies were collected as well. Fish in this species group measured between 6-12”.
