BLACK CRAPPIE
Very Good VERY GOOD
In the most recent survey, approximately 86% of the black crappie were over 8 inches and 64% were over 10 inches. There are good numbers of crappie over 8 inches. There is no crappie regulation at Weldon Springs.
BLUEGILL
Very Good VERY GOOD
The quality of the bluegill population has been consistent the past 7 years. There is a large number of 6 to 7 inch bluegill and a few over 8 inches. There is no bluegill regulation at Weldon Springs.
CHANNEL CATFISH
Very Good VERY GOOD
Each year Weldon Springs is stocked with 8-inch channel catfish. Anglers should expect to catch catfish in the 16 to 25-inch range. With the stocking program, the catfish population should continue to provide great angling opportunities for channel catfish. Site Regulation: 6 fish daily limit.
LARGEMOUTH BASS
Very Good VERY GOOD
This lake provides an excellent opportunity to catch a nice largemouth bass. The catch rate for the most recent electrofishing survey resulted in a catch rate of 245.3 bass per hour. The average catch rate since 2011 is 219 per hour and is well above the targeted catch rate. The largest bass collected weighed 5.33 pounds. Of the bass 8 inches and longer that were collected, 64% were longer than 12 inches, 29% longer than 15 inches, and 2% were longer than 20 inches. Site Regulation: 15" length limit, 1 fish daily limit.
REDEAR SUNFISH
Very Good VERY GOOD
There are good numbers and sizes of redear sunfish. In the most recent fish survey, approximately 47% of the redear sunfish collected were larger than 7 inches.
SAUGEYE (Walleye/Sauger Hybrid)
Very Good VERY GOOD
Weldon Springs has been stocked annually with fingerling saugeye since 2010. The most recent spring netting survey resulted in the collection of 78 saugeye ranging in size from 12 inches to 26 inches. The largest saugeye weighed 7 pounds. Site Regulation: 15" with only 1 fish over 20", 3 fish daily limit.
