Stopped out at Waukegan Harbor today at 1130 am , and Northpoint (after 1pm), and noticed the fish cleaning stations, were untouched ghost towns ! Saw 2 guys fishing the south rocks at Waukegan ,they said they had no bites all morning ! Saw no fishing boats or charters coming in either ! Talked to a young man who was sitting in Salmon Unlimited pavilion at Northpoint, next to cleaning station . Said he was there most of the morning , and saw no one cleaning fish ! He did report that 2 guys were talking about 2 coho they caught, but did not clean them . Maybe they were the smaller ones people were catching and throwing back ? I did see what looked to be a 3lb smallie, swim out from under a dock by the Waukegan cleaning station , chasing a small school of minnows ! Saw no other fish other than that smallie, swimming or surfacing , the 2 hours i spent at both harbors ! The wind was starting to pick up at a pretty could clip when i left Northpoint ! Marine forecast for tomorrow is 4 to 6 ft waves , building in afternoon , to 6-9 ft ,then going to 9-12 ft waves in the evening with an occasional 18 ft rogue wave, in off shore waters ! Sounds like where in for chocolate colored stained water for the next few days ! <(((<
Anybody having any luck fishing the Waukegan Harbor for Kings ? i'm hearing that fishing from shore has been sporadic, and one day fish are caught at south rocks, then next day north harbor , then maybe next day half way out on pier to lighthouse ? Would like to hear some comments or reports, as water temp now is at 47.5 degrees at Waukegan Buoy ! Big storm rolling in Friday night, and open water marine forecast for Friday evening is Gale Force winds , and 8-10 ft waves in open water, and waves building to 10-14 ft, and occasional 18 ft. !!! Today and tonight may be last time to fish in water thats not chocolate milk for some time ! lets hear some reports the silence is deafening !
