It was a hopeful day for our first outing on Lily this year (soft water).  Sure wish that we could share more lessons learned from our adventure, other than, crankbaits are the only thing that caught fish.  We only had one bass each and a greedy bluegill.  A handful of fish unbuttoned before we got them in.  Think we'll stay away until the water temperature rises at least another 10 degree at Lily.

I drive by the lake and there are almost always people fishing; but, not sure how well they were doing - was hoping to see some posts about the lake.  It was really slow when WonderTucky1 and I went out.  Was hoping for way more and way larger crappie.  WT1 is pictured with a decent-sized bluegill, though.

Fair morning of fishing. It was windier than I like so boat control was a bit difficult, but two and a half hours produced six bass; four on topwater (poppers) and two on medium-diving cranks. The vegetation is getting thicker again and water clarity was about two feet of visibility.

Two vehicles parked in front of the “No Parking” sign next to the boat launch, a boat cruising the lake with at least a 150 hp motor, and a truck/trailer parked in a no parking zone that blocked me in . . . Other than those things, it was another great day of fishing; one on plastics, two on topwater, and fifteen on crankbaits. So, three days fishing Lily produced 52 bass (all but two were keepers).

Another great day on Lily. This time, we wanted to check out the evening bite. No 3-pounders today, nor did we obtain yesterday’s numbers, but the topwater bite was pretty hot. Four hours on the lake and we pulled in 15 bass; one on a weightless BPS 5-3/8'' Stik-O Worm (junebug), six on various crankbaits (two are pictured), and eight on poppers. The third picture is a hand-painted (firetiger) Rebel Pop-R that was completely inhaled by a 1-pounder. There were two kayakers out there; not sure how well they did.

I had a five keeper-sized day . . . which is a good day, but WonderTucky1 was on fire this morning. He pulled in 11 keeper-sized bass, to include two 3-pounders. Total, we fooled 19 bass into biting and missed several more. We caught a few with plastics, spinnerbaits, and hard jerks, but the hot ticket was the crankbait. No fish busting the surface; I got only one swipe with a chugger, but it missed.

Decent couple of hours. Met a kayaker on the lake who said that he had no luck. I told him that my bass hit crankbaits. He tied on a lipless crank and finally caught one. Not sure how well he did after I left for McCullom Lake. Anyway, four bass and several missed ones – all on lipless cranks and medium-divers. (*Check out McCullom Lake report for a 5+ lbs bass).

April 11, 2018. Water temperature: Main part of lake (near 20’ contour) was 45 degrees around 1100. Shallower, south side of lake was 50 degrees by noon. Two bass boated and released; both were very healthy, 15-inchers. First fish (pictured) was caught on a 6-inch hard jerkbait (perch color). Technique: medium, steady retrieve and quick pause after bumping into vegetation. Another bass was fooled by a lipless crankbait (1/2-ounce Rat-L-Trap in Electric Blue). Technique: fast, steady retrieve and “rip” through vegetation. Neither fish attacked the bait aggressively; the lures just felt heavier. Missed a couple with a Texas-rigged worm, but crankbaits seemed to be most effective today.

Went out Saturday 9/9 for a couple hours throwing a frog in the pads. Nothing this trip out. Have started to catch a few this summer though although nothing over 14". In the spring I've done well before all the pad growth popping small bass, crappie, perch and a couple grass pickerel. Glad to see there's a little life coming back. Can't wait til the bass grow a little bigger! Recently there has been a die off of A lot of carp. Come to understand there is a "carp disease" wiping them out. Can't say I hate the idea of that! Good for population control and water environment. Can't wait for the next couple years for the fish to grow! Hopefully we don't get another deep freeze!

Went fishing around 5pm.Weather was nice not to windy not to sunny.Ended up catching 4 Crappie around 6:30pm.Biggest was around 12 inches.Saw maybe one or 2 jumpers the entire time.Didn't catch or see any bass.I think what you guys are saying is true. This winter killed the population of bass.Which makes sense because it's an extremely shallow lake. It's really sad cause this was my favorite lake to fish from and it's going to take years for the population to come back to what it was.I like this lake because it's very quiet(despite the roar of the highway). If anyone has any nearby lakes that have the same qualities as this one did please let me know.Having a hard time finding a lake that isn't publicly domesticated.
