Looking for the best place to get a prop and skeg reconditioned. Hit something in the canal on the way in Sunday. Fish the entire breakwall at the mouth of the canal and got skunked. Then went into Lake Calumet for the rest of the day and got skunked. On my way back out through the locks got this 5lb Smalley. What a way to end an otherwise bummer of a day.
55 fish yes I have been busy with vacation and tournaments up north lately. I will be out there Saturday also. Just to let you know there is a tournament going out of waterfront. Pm me.
Going out Saturday to the mouth of the canal at lake Michigan looking for some smallies. Anyone have any input as I have never fished this area before. Angler1 you've been pretty silent lately and seem to possess some knowledge of this area.
List of Chicago Harbors, click on explore harbors for each location. There is a fee, not cheap but...Also, may wants to call the specific harbor ahead, I found out 31st is not open on weekends, doesn’t make much sense as Burnham would get more crowded but these are the times. There’s also Waukegan and Northpoint up north.
You can launch at Waterfront Pub. It’s right before the O’Brien lock. Not far upriver to the lake after you lock out. There is a launch fee.
There is a launch at Calumet Park just north of the USCG station. It's right on Lake MI.
Thanks 55fish, but I'm looking for somewhere closer to the lake.
Jim76 yes after you lock out of the canal stay to the right and it's about 7mi to the lake. As for the launch I put in in summit\worth at the golf course. It's about a 25min boat ride to the locks but my wife and I enjoy the ride. There is a marina right near the locks but I've never used it. Let me know how you do because next time out that's where I'm going.
Is there access to lake Michigan there and where is a safe secured boat ramp? I would like to find some smallies.
