Sorry to hear that. You should call and talk to someone else. I got a daily pass for a friend 2 years ago and it was only 15$. That 60$ might be the year pass. They might have miss informed you. When I lived there I only paid 40 for the year and was foe the whole family. Try crystal lake in crystal lake. I don't think there is a fee for that lake.
After I saw your post, I contacted the village of Lake in the Hills to see what a nonresident pass costs. A nonresident pass cannot be purchased yearly. Nonresident passes are issued daily. They are $60 a day. If that’s not a cut and dry stay out for non-residents, I don’t know what is. I will not be fishing this lake.
I think this is woods creek lake. I fished there when I lived in lake in the hills. It's a few blocks away from the police station. 147 hill top drive is the address to one of the boat launches. You have to buy a season pass from the city hall to fish there. Pike bass and walleye are all in there. Small boats and trolling motors only. I only ice fished there. It was good fishing. I haven't been there in 2 years. This is the only lake I know of in lake in the hills. Good luck
This report is from our fishing session on 1/20/24. I arrived on the lake around 9am and they didn't have the big gate open like last year, they only had the side gate open which was smaller and this sucked because I had to breakdown my smitty sled to get through the door and it was a pain. With that said there were 3 other tents on the ice already and I made my way out east as this was where everyone was. I went out around drilling about 15 holes looking for the fish and it took me about an hour to find them but I found them! I setup my ice shanty and setup a few tip-ups and me and my son went to work.
We fished from 10am until 12pm and we couldn't tell what kind of fish were on the Livescope until I was able to pull one up and they were Crappies! They were coming in waves and we had a blast catching them. They weren't really picky on this day and they were eating anything and everything we were putting in front of them. Spikes or Minnows, it didn't matter. We had some action on the tip-up but, of course the fish came off right when it got to the hole. The ice was around 5" to 6" when we went and I hope to get out a few more times before the end of this short season.
If anyone can post a recent ice report, I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks and Tight Lines!
