Has anyone checked the ice thickness yet? Thinking about an expedition to Wauconda later in the week.

Submerged Vegetation
Yesterday (6/9) I had successful Bluegill/Pumpkinseed kind of day. Ended up keeping my 10 - all over 7". Mainly worked the submerged weed beds in 6 - 9 FOW. Caught fish on a micro-jig with a 1" gulp minnow set 24" under a rocket bobber; on a slip bobber set to suspend a small hair jig with a half redworm 3' deep and finally on a drop shot setup with a #8 tru turn hook set 18" from the bottom with 1/2 red worm. I did find a big clump of weeds that had nothing but perch - all 6 - 8" long. I caught six in like 15 minutes and decided it was time to move.
The other power boaters were fine and did not come too close to my little 14 footer. While speaking to a Park District employee I found out that Wauconda is going to kill off the weeds in 2-3 weeks. It will be a lot harder to find the fish once they turn the lake bottom to a desert :(

Weed Beds
Spent an enjoyable day on the water. Purchased my season launch pass, then purchased some minnows from Wauconda Bait (the old Wauconda Boat building). Ended up catching 4 gills/pumkinseeds over 7" and around 50 gills 3-5". While on the water I met the police Sgt. He checked out my safety gear and sold me a sticker so I'm good to go for the season. It was nice to be back on the lake. The weeds were very, very thick. All fish were caught on 1/2 red worm suspended on a small hair jig under a slip bobber.
