Spent 4 hours out with the wife and kids.  Managed 3 trout and a few gills.

All on small jig tipped with wax worm.  Bite is light but persistent.

Found fish in 10 fow holding tight to downed trees.

Saw at least 5 other groups out, everyone was having about the same luck.

Just the smart trout are left ! All the easy ones have been taken ! hopefully with weather warming up next two days, there might be a bug hatch , and get some of these smart ones near the surface on the bite !

Funny, I fished Hollows Sat afternoon with waxworms under a bobber and didn't get a bite .  Saw no one catch a fish in 3 hours.  Evidently the trout were cleaned out before noon.

Fished Banana Lake today  for trout from 8am to 1130am. Not even a bump ! Saw about 12 guys fishing for trout, and game warden said nobody had caught one yet around 10am. Tried powerbait, spinners, and kastmaster , nothing !  Talked to Jim at Salmon Shop, in Palatine. He said there is better action at the Hollows, fishing with wax worms under a slip bobber, and just  cast out and twitch !  The good news is both lakes have trout averaging 1 1/2 lbs. each !

I stand corrected. The IDNR release did not mention Banana Lake. I called the contact source listed on the press release and was told no stocking would be done. Late today, I accessed the Lake County Forest Preserve web site and see the two notices about the 600 lbs of stocking! Go figure! I went to Lake Atwood that was supposed to be stocked and saw few fish caught due to tough weather. Would have done Banana if I knew they had stocked it.

They didn't stock Banana this Spring, so those trout were "left-overs" from last year.

I didn't go but a good friend did make opening day and once since. He worked all morning to get his five fish. Used gulp or power bait to finally get them to bite. Second day back was just as slow so he caught some nice crappies in the lake next to it. Only three so don't get excited. The article says they put 600 lbs. of fish in there so many of them are probably still swimming.
