Bigred, here is my $.02…… I too go to ice jigs a lot. Small mouth, small jig right? My guess is the leeches were a little big for the fish. They were probably nibbling at it till it fell off. Try a little piece of night crawler. Just a tiny piece. I will also cut my leeches in half from time to time. This should increase hook sets. Remember, it isn’t always the size of the bait. Sone of my biggest fish come on a drop shot and crawler pieces!!

For the walleye, its all about finesse. They are a picky finesse fish. This is the reason God created bass!! Walleye bites are typically very soft. Hard for novice anglers to feel. Gotta keep your finger on that line!! Slip bobber with that leech in the right places and you’ll have success. Early evening is alway a good time to set up. Fish into the dark. Did well last night on Lake Geneva. Good luck brother. Tight Linez!!

Fished with my son on Saturday.  Caught a few bass, but having issues with panfish.  I was using a slip bobber and leach.  My leach was being taken. I downsized to ice jig and lost a total of doz leaches and none in the box.  What am I missing? I  still can't seem to dial in the walleye or be consistent with the pan fish.  Any ideas are appreciated.

Memorial Weekend was a great fishing weekend.  Caught over 30 Walleyes in 3 days.    Additionally put 35 Bluegills in the live well for a fish fry.

We fished Hawthorne point from 9am to noon Saturday. Marked a few fish and caught a couple small gills and bass. We walked from the Cove. Everything I measured the ice was 7-10 inches thick. On the walk out we crossed a 2 inch crack that was frozen over. When we left it was a large heave. It’s about 70 yards from Hawthorne point. The shorelines were bad in some spots but good at the Cove when we left.

Ice: 6"

Was out yesterday and found 5-7” w about 1-2” of slush on top in spots. Plenty of good ice but I would only walk out in my opinion. I did not see any UTV on the ice. Bite was extremely slow for me in the spots I fished.
