I just bought my 4th preference point last week.  Didn't try for a harvest permit, as I didn't have time to pull things together for next week if I was selected.  Next year hopefully!

Where to go?

National forest.    The hard part about this hunt is that few people have had time to scout and prepare and wolves can be highly mobile.  Here today and next week miles away..

Just as much as a wolf loves to eat it also loves easy traveling. Logging roads, snowmobile trails and gravel roads through the public forest.

I would talk with local business owners (taverns, resorts, delivery guys) and farmers for any tips on where they been hearing or seeing wolves. Also check out the 2012 wolf report where it shows approximate areas where the wolves were harvested that year. Local bear hunters probably would give out some ideas where they may be this time of the year.

With such a short season it will be tough. I think the best bet is to seek out the best active deer trails/sign you can find. In the northwoods bigger wilderness settings, the deer should be yarded up but with the lack of snow this year, I don’t think the traditional deer yards are as active as they normally would be so the deer are still spread out and getting around just fine.  Personally, if I get a tag, I will spend the 1st full day driving around scouting and looking for the best deer trails I can find in the big woods settings that I know have cedar swamps, active logging, etc. If I find good sign, then it’s time to put miles on the boots.  Either way, it’s gonna be tough but I sure look forward to the opportunity!

If any of us get lucky and draw a permit, how do you plan on hunting. Not knowing where to go seems like it's going to be very tough.  I've only seen a few wolves where I hunt but not for 5 years. If I draw I'll probably go to Clark County forest or cheguamegon.  But I have no clue.

My best guess would be Evers. I also believe he would be the reason for no action and being ready with the season to roll out January 4th when they were delisted.
