"Here are hard facts from the great UW-Madison system... 133 documented cattle kills from wolves between 1999 and 2006. That equates to less than 20 a year."

Hey Mr. Peabody, why don't you set the Wayback machine for something a little more relevant.  Back then there were only around 100 wolves in the state.  Now there's 1100+ verified wolves, and everyone in the state knows there are far more than that.

Minn moose at 1/3 their former population.

Minn once had a huntable population of moose and hunting is no longer allowed.

Moose numbers have stabilized in northeast Minnesota in recent years. After reaching a peak of nearly 9,000 in 2006, they've hovered around 3,000 for the past several years, including during the most recent survey released this week.

But Carstensen noted the same trend occurred in northwest Minnesota after numbers started to drop in the 1980s. They leveled for a time, before falling precipitously again. Now they've virtually disappeared from that corner of the state.

"I'm cautiously hopeful that we've leveled off," she said. "But I'm also realistic that it might decline even further in the next five years and mimic what happened in the Northwest part of the state."

The whole reintroduction thing is a myth that is spread around the internet.  They migrated from northern MN into WI and its even documented on the WI DNR site.

Also its state law so the DNR had to have the season, they didn't choose to just do it last minute....

I didn't get one this time, kind of figured I wouldn't but prepared anyways just in case.  Took my sled to a few spots and saw good sign but oh well.

I wonder if they'll track how many of the 200 are taken by trappers vs hunters.  I sort of expect most of them to be trapped.  Only a quota of 33 by me, they'll recover that and then some this spring when they have pups.
