Question, what is the easiet way to determine how much backer line, lead core and leader a reel will hold?

Is there a calculator that can be used to determine this?

I see a lot of guys fishing with spools only partially filled. Lake fishing gear, where not enough line means you can get spooled by the big one, is just one issue. The other is your drag system gets tortured by having to work so much harder and spin so much faster as you run out of line. I take the calculations out of the picture with lead core line by putting the core on first  then tying on the backing and filling the reel to the top. Next comes the flip, where the line is spun out in an open grassy area and re-connected and put on with the core on top. Larger plastic line spools and a battery drill (see pic) work, but you need to do it twice with another spool or maybe another similar fishing reel. I've never been great at calculations. Note: To finish, I use a Willis knot to tie on a 30 foot flouro leader.

Yup, sure is. Don't worry about leader, never need more than a couple yards of that at the end. Insert lead core numbers first and then backer you plan to use and it will tell you how much to add. Questions just ask.
