Greetings.  I am a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Milwaukee.  I wanted to make the fisherman, boaters and other lake users aware of a new experimental Inland Lakes Forecast we have begun preparing and distributing.  The forecast is a three day outlook of weather, temperature, winds and WAVES on larger inland lakes across south central and southeast Wisconsin.  We also estimate the water temperature from satellite information.   The forecast is available at www.weather.gov/mkx/inland-lake-waves.  Take a look at let us know how the forecast worked out.

Also, the inland lake water temperature is estimated using satellite data, except for Lake Mendota.  A buoy located on Lake Mendota in Madison measures the surface water temperature continuously during the warmer months, and is available at http://metobs.ssec.wisc.edu/mendota/buoy/.  The NWS would appreciate your relaying your reports of near surface or surface water temperature to us so we can verify the temperature data we are estimating from satellites.  To relay us your estimated temperatures or feedback on the Inland Lakes Forecast, please send us an email at [email protected].  Be sure to tell us what lake you were on, and the date and estimated time of your measurement.

Thank you for your assistance, and have a great fishing season.
