Quest to catch 50 different fish species in Wisconsin

I'm turning 40 tomorrow.  I figure, I'm not going to get better at anything athletically, but I still want to have some goals in life.  I like fishing, but I don't get out there as much as I'd like.  To motivate myself and to keep it interesting, I decided to set a goal of catching 50 different species of fish here in my home state of Wisconsin.  And to add to the difficulty, I have to catch each as I'm filming it.  I'm going to post each video to this thread, and I'm also going to need help as I go.  Any tips on how to catch different species of fish would be greatly appreciated.  Here's the first fish I caught on video, the Bigmouth Buffalo by the Hustisford Dam.

Ha! Roofer, that's hilarious about your 6 year old grandson talking so much!  Good luck on the quest!

I'm going to borrow your "quest" for fifty,  but see how many I and 6yr old grandson can catch from new year till new year. I'll be insane by  the end of labor day but  I'll try. He never shuts up when fishing.

n.pike - I've been trying!  I suck!  I didn't make any videos of the trips I've had.  I went to Pewaukee Lake a couple of times and struck out.  Wisconsin River twice.  Struck out.  I have a call out to a few people I know and I might go with them in November.  I do have a video made and saved on my account where I try for muskie, but I haven't released it yet.

I'm a teacher and I'm worried about getting COVID so I have three videos saved in case I get it or have to quarantine.  That way I can still release videos on Tuesday for a while even if I'm stuck at home.  The likelyhood of me getting it sure seems high.  Already 5 teachers at my school have got it (we have about 40 teachers in my building).  YIKES.

Try major types of rivers for musky in the spring and fall, especially when they are looking to eat and willing to strike, but be ready! (at ALL times)

If your gonna cast you better last!!! (or be sorry!)

They bite in summer too and at nite!

Are you still going for Fifty Tiefsa? I seem to recall you being at 49, then trying for musky and then kind of making videos without the focus on 50? Totally cool either way. Just curious.

If you fish Northwest Wisconsin, the rivers hold five species of red horse sucker.

Tiefsa I’ll be headed north for awhile but will be back down in late August. If it hasn’t happened by then I would be happy to try and put you and your son on a fish. I’m not a guide but I do fish the waters you are targeting fairly often. In the meantime you have mail and good luck!
