Kinda a wierd question, but does anyone know where there are a decent population of gar in Wisconsin? I was going to try and catch one on hook and line, for gits and shiggles. Ive seen lots on the Mississippi but have never managed to hook one.

I went with a work friend to poygan one spring at the cut, and got probably 30. Not real big but still fun to catch. It was strange because I probably only caught 2 in my life before that and fished the Fox River almost every day as a kid.

Shawano Lake. When the DNR does fyke netting surveys there are usually one or two nets that look like porcupines when they are pulled. Insane population of them in that lake.

The Black River portion upstream from the I90 bridge in Onalaska, Wi. Go to the back channels across from the "air port beach".  They like to bask in schools; yes some in the 3 foot range. Question is, what do you do with them once you catch'em???
