So, I’m seeing reports of someone catching 29 Muskies and other reports of 10+ on the Fox River before daylight on opening day.  Just curious on people’s opinions on this.

Here’s mine:

A:  I feel that it is unethical harassment of fish that would otherwise not be caught.  I’ve not heard of someone catching that many fish in that short of time.

B:  I assure you fish are being snagged.

Fish, nowadays it's kind of hard to tell when people are being serious or not. There's a lot of off the wall beliefs and ideas out there, and I'm not talking about the fishing world.... always hard to identify sarcasm in text or another written form. We good!

I was waiting for my wife the other day and thought I'd google simply " FFS. "

On page two was the definition of the profane acronym. Nothing about foreword facing sonar.

Pages and pages of results for FFS being "facial feminization Surgery".

I betcha more people are interested in the sonar than the surgery.

I hope you didn’t take me seriously on that G. I was being sarcastic. There will always be bad apples regardless of the level of technology. The one thing we can agree on is that lead is toxic. Tons of studies show it.

FishinXtremeLIB... we are getting a little off topic, just like when you told me I should stop fishing because my outboard is contributing to the destruction of the ozone. We should probably start another thread on this topic🤣

Lead gets a lot of birds that prey on fish.

Perhaps, any information on fish mortality due to lead poisoning from jig heads and sinkers... perhaps you should start another thread🤔

If the conservation element is a concern,  I put the query of. Banning of the use of lead in the fishing environment.  For it?

Church, went back and checked video is from 2022 so yeah it was still pretty early in the FFS era.  Didnt know that Jeremy helped with establishing some parameters for their use on Eagle.  I know there are are handful of lodges there that have owners that are very conscientious about protecting the resource.  The camp I stay at, the lodge owner was very instrumental in getting Eagle closed to night fishing, that and the slot probably saved the walleye fishing there.

Grace,

It was my understanding that Jeremy Smith provided some input on the FFS measure being.put forward by most of the lodges. Maybe he's talkin' out both sides of his mouth, but I certainly didn't get that sense. I'd be curious to know when the vid you referenced was made. I could envision a scenario where in the beginning of FFS use anglers were tickled and amazed by the information they received from the new technology. As time went by and the technology was better understood and the use of it refined, then forward thinking people began to see the negative impacts the technology could have on fishing, especially on the top of the food pyramid predators like the musky.

Church. been going to Eagle Lake since 1984 there are two resorts that have always put money before the resource and you named them in your post.

Church, just watched a youtube video of Jeremy Smith on Eagle Lake, think he was staying at Birch Dale Lodge.  He was using it and was gitty about how he could watch a fish follow his bait and then dropped it and watch it follow all the way down.  It maybe the case of you guys dont use but we have a TV show to make.  I think he might fall in the same category as Andy Meyer and Temple Bay.   Great for us but we dont want people showing up that havent booked guides using it.

We booked a guided day trip with WDH guide service a few years ago for muskys. His program involved using forward facing sonar not to find fish but to basically monitor any fish that might have followed our baits back to the boat. There were a couple of fish that did follow our baits back to the boat but remained deep and out of sight. He made us aware and a little extra time was then devoted to figure 8's. No strikes for us that day with the exception of a sucker being "mouthed". That strike wasn't enough to merit a hookset.
