I may be biased since I live near Madison, but the Madison chain has some good gills.  I fish all four lakes for them.  Some years are down years on a couple of the lakes but they always seem to bounce back.  My favorite way to catch them is drifting for them in the middle of the summer.  For the most part I leave the spawning gills alone. I may take my kids out once or twice to do some bobber fishing, but otherwise I let them do their thing when they're spawning.

There’s a couple lakes in Oneida and Vilas counties that hold great gill.

Thanks WelderGuy, apparently NO ONE wants to "share" their favorite Blue Gill lake, so this thread is a joke!

Bluegill Lake is my favorite. It's got so many big gills in it they named the lake after them!

Hey BugleTrout, WHICH Long, Bass & Pike lakes are you referring to? I'm sure you're aware that there are numerous Long, Bass & Pike lakes.

Madison chain has really nice sized (8-9) and accessible gils for the frypan, if you want monsters hit the Mississippi River, but from my experience it's really a hunt.  Those fry nice as well.
