Was just curious if there is any ice in southern Wisconsin I haven’t been able to get out and check any places out yet this year. Thanks in advance

well, I'm not making this stuff up.. and I expect you aren't either, lets just say we had different life experiences... mine were more in the SE corner of WI, closer to Lake Michigan which would have an effect

for example: I have never fished Poygan or Mendota soft or hard water

The winter climate goes up and down naturally. It will be snowy and cold early again in our lifetime I hope.

Not true Nihsif.I remember  driving out on Poygan every year between  Christmas  and New Years 50 year's  ago. Those days are history.Lake Mendota has ice records back to 1870.Getting so warm in 20 years it won't  freeze at all.

Echo lake bay is starting to ice up a little on Hwy 36 end, but wind is making it difficult. Don’t fish Echo, but after they dredge it on Dam project, it will be deeper which will be good. They pull some nice Pike out of there now and it’s shallow.

I dunno, 50 years ago we, Dad and me, usually didn't get on the ice until January... that was pretty standard...earliest spot was a little bay on Tichigan

talking Wind Lake, Tichigan, Denoon, Golden, Little Muskego, etc. etc. area lakes....

Yeah I  remember Jaybee it was 2014.I  got out November 21 in Washington County.By Christmas that year ice was unsafe everywhere in Southeast Wisconsin.Sold my snowmobile 7 years ago, can't  afford going Up North for that. This Christmas will  be 10th in row with no snow in Milwaukee. Also selling my snowblower since it never snows here.By 2030 -40 Ice fishing will be history in Southeast Wisconsin along with snow.

MCC, about 6 or 7 years ago, I was ice fishing in Waukesha County the day BEFORE  deer gun hunting season.

But indeed, this year I had to go up by Petenwell to some backwater bays around Thanksgiving

I remember back in the 1990's, fishing Rome pond in November,  early December,  and the catch was good, back in the day. But Rome Pond has been poor fishing for many years now

There's never any ice in Milwaukee area until January thanks to rampant Global warming. Not even any snow yet.  Wasn't like this 50 years ago.

They were going out on Cherokee in Madison for a few days but last Saturday a couple of guys fell in and needed to be rescued.  Haven't heard since if they're back out there after yesterday's cold weather or not.  I'm going to wait another week.

Down near me in Stoughton, Viking Park is always a first ice spot. I've seen guys out there a day after it has froze! Only 2 feet deep there, but if you do happen to fall in there'll be at least a 2 foot layer of soft mud, so expect to fall in about 4 feet if you go in.   That's where I've walked on the thinnest ice I've ever walked on at under 2 inches thick, and I'm 300+ pounds!  Just don't stay close to the hole you've drilled or water will come up and wreck the ice....sketchy stuff!

None on Tichigan.     These windy days are preventing it from forming.      CARPIO
