Was just curious if there is any ice in southern Wisconsin I haven’t been able to get out and check any places out yet this year. Thanks in advance

Any ice in southern Wisconsin?
How are the ice conditions in the Racine/Burlington/Kenosha area? Heading home to Chicago for the weekend and wanted to get together with a friend who has never been on the ice to introduce him to the sport. If he fell through, I don't think he'd want to go again, so looking for a safe(r) lake with decent walking access.
50's aren't in the forecast yet, but keep your eye on it the next couple of days. As you said, temps keep creeping up and there will be 50's around here next week. Lows right around freezing...could potentially have about 48 hours straight above freezing. Let's hope we make enough ice through Monday to withstand it.
I follow meteorologist message boards and let me tell you, the official forecasts are behind the curve with the upcoming New Years heat wave. Right now it's showing highs around 40, but it's going to be in the 50's New Years Eve/New Years Day in Southern WI. Hopefully we make plenty of ice over the next few days or we'll be starting over again.
It really is a tough time to be a winter sports fan. Nothing but frustration year after year.
I'm about 20 minutes from the Illinois border and I was on the ice yesterday. I'll be fishing almost every day as long as it holds up. Excluding tomorrow, we have 5 or so days of making ice, so that should lock things up enough to withstand a warming trend. I would really like to see 12"-15" by mid-January so I can drive on my local tip-up lake. I'll pull my sled out if I have to though. I'm optimistic about this Winter. I'm trusting the Farmer's Almanac.
There will be ice fishing happening next weekend in Madison if not sooner. If this wind dies down someone will be on Monona Bay by Wednesday or Thursday next week. Highs in the single digits and lows below zero will make ice quick if there is no wind. I'm banking on my first day being the 26th.
We got a place in Oneida county MC. Primary house in Burlington. I feel sorry for the snowmobile clubs down south because they go out and mark the trails every year. They usually don’t get much trail time down in these parts. That’s a lot of work every year for how much they get out of it!! Agree with you 100%!,
Climate normals (average highs, lows, etc) are recalculated by the NWS (NOAA) every ten years.
