2021 Waterfowl Reports
Hunted large central wi lake saturday am hoping for some diver action, albeit per usual for this season not a duck killed, shot a coot for the dog and that was all, seen a couple high flying wads but very slow overall, very disappointing season so far.
If anyone found a goose floater, please msg me.
Shot two geese Saturday morning and called it quits, figured that was good. Sunday morning never fired the gun, all the geese were just out of range.
Yes...you are correct rufflefeather. I believe as a landowner you can get 5 crane control tags. I know one farmer that has filled those tags every year for the past 4 or 5 years. IMO it is a complete waste to have to destroy the bird and throw it away once a control tag is filled.
SuspendedMusky ted Nugent was in WI fighting for crane season, they are overpopulated and doing agricultural damage, so the DNR is having them killed and disposed of instead of allowing hunters to harvest them
Switched it up today and went very small water, very small spread. Had 2 mallards and 2 wood ducks over the dekes this morning hunting a farm pond. Didn't see a ton of ducks today, maybe 25 birds total. However, we did have wave after wave of sandhill cranes pass over, many easily within shooting range (provided they were legal game in WI). Hundreds of geese in the air too.
It was an awesome sunrise through the cattails this morning.
Hunted last evening as well, anticipating a decent hunt it was yet another expected SE WI duck hunt with 0 birds seen other than the flock of geese that came over while picking up. Wish the WPA's and public marshes held more birds around here, o well heading north tonight hope to see more diver action in AM.
