2020 Waterfowl Reports
100% successful hatches out of 8 wood duck boxes. 3 of them actually hatched out 2 broods.
I haven't duck hunted in years because of not having a dog. My boxers sink when they try to swim in water that's deeper than a couple feet. We love them but they aren't like my black lab I had as kid.
Over the past few years the duck population has been increasing steadily around the Lake Wissota area. Every year we see more and more ducks. I think because of the many adjacent areas that are basically large refuges to the ducks. We certainly enjoy seeing them.
Just as a general observation, I’d say production in the MS flyway - La Crosse area, pool 7 - is average or better. But the flyway is always/usually good.
SE (Kenosha co) Mallard hatch is doing great, more broods than I have ever seen.
About 60-70% of the wood duck houses look occupied, but could be mergansers .
Canadas are doing well, alot of big broods.
How is it in other areas?
Thanks for the updates Feathers!
