Would it make sense to change winning criteria to total length of fish rather than weight?

My $.02 on tournaments for any species.
First off, put a tournament official in the boat, when there is big money on the line.
And if it were me?  I'd make sure that any tournament running on a lake has to give part of the money (prize) back to a club like Walleyes4Tomorrow / Muskies Inc so that they can continue to stock the lake or improve the lake.
I don't much care for when a big tournament comes to town, picks on the fish for the name of money, then leaves without helping the resource out.

But, that is just how I feel.  I know a lot of local economies get better with tournaments due to hotels and bars/restaurants getting more business, but the lake doesn't get any of that extra money, so let's give some back to help the resource.

Still doesn't address the fish baskets hidden around the lake. All tourneys including walleye need to be be catch, photo, release. Only the musky guys are doing it right.

Aim has been doing it for years. Photo of fish on bump board, they have preweights  set based off of length of fish.

Agree with the above. Not a fan of tournaments but this what should be done. Of course I get the reality of money with advertising/TV deals etc. where guys are holding up their catch and adding extra buzz to the event.  Wish they were all Catch/photo/release after the length is taken

So long as you have tournaments, you will have cheaters. It's all about the bragging rights and money. It's no longer a sporting event, but rather a money event.  It's time we enjoy the sport and take the money out of it. Give the fish a brake.

Could definitely see it; however, I'd think it would require digitally calibrated and verifiable measurements.
