Clueless!
Get out there! I shot my first grouse in pouring rain! And I hunt in the rain all the time. Birds who flew down from the trees early in the day will congregate around the conifers when the rain starts. Go get em!
I am so jealous of all you guys for getting out in the early weeks. I can’t get up until October 17th. Please leave a few for me.
Not much to report today. Took the the dogs over by the hunting shack. we walked for about 1.5 hrs, 1 flush and I missed. Next week we will take our camper 60-70 miles northwest and spend about 3 days there. Better habitat, and any serious grouse hunter now’s it’s all about being in the right habitat.
Wet weekend coming up which is never great forbird hunting.
Hunted 2 hours this afternoon under less than ideal conditions. Very windy and then had about a 20 minute rain shower. Flushed 3 and got 2 shots, bagged 1 bird. Dogs were birdy multiple times and may have flushed more birds but I never heard them with the wind gusts.
My 11 month old came up to me w/ about 8 quills in her face and tongue. They pulled out easily. I never did see the porcupine.
Went out hunting in Waushara county for an hour and 1/2 with the little one. We were able to put up 6. They were in pairs of 3’s, 2’s and a single. We hunted in a 4 year old logged out hardwoods area with pines. No shots, 1 flushed in front of us, 2 flushed behind us and other 3 flushed on the opposite side of a pine. I was only able to mount once before it disappeared. It was a fun day of learning. I wasn’t expecting to get out but I had to scratch the itch.
