There are supposed to  be Bob whites in the SW part of the state . Has anyone ever hunted these  ?

A few years back, we were hunting grouse in Mercer and ran into three large coveys in the middle of the woods. The public land abutted some private property and I know the owner. He trains his dogs all year on quail so I am sure they were his. Dog went on point by a large fallen tree and like 30 of the little buggers came running out. I was shocked.

In Kenosha county there has been a good hatch this spring.

I do know of 3 different coveys on my buddy's property.

They really made a come back after the '17 flood, and hopefully with a lot of idle ground this year they do even better.

Pine Island, Ottawa in Southern KM, Bong Rec Area, Solon Springs, Yellowstone any quail you find on these propoerties are directly from dog training and field trials with designations as either class 1 or class 2 field trial grounds. if you happen to utilize these grounds, be thankful to the pointing dog clubs in the state as they are the ones who improve and maintatin these grounds

I was looking at the Peterson  's field guide , and it shows Bob's almost up to the Twin Cities . But just along the river .

We got into some coveys about 20 years ago west of Baraboo.

They were fairly large coveys and we think they were established by a guy working bird dogs throughout summer.

I see coveys of quail at a few farms north of Portage.  I have seen them consistantly for about 30 yrs. now.  They are wild big fat bob whites.  They would be mixed in with the grouse.  Now rare to see a grouse, but the quail are still there.

I (actually my dogs) usually find a covey on PHG about every other year. I am certain they are leftovers from dog training. About 30 years ago we flushed a covey in southern Kettle Moraine while mountain biking.

It's been about ten years since we last saw any but we used to have to coveys on my grandparents farms in South West Wisconsin. Unfortunately I we haven't seen any since and I think the predators took care of them.
