With the finding of the bird flu in several different locations in Wisconsin. What are everyone's thoughts on what the DNR will do for production and release numbers. May your dogs work good and your shot be true come October.

Until 2010 there was a Christmas release/end-of-season release or whatever you want to call it.  2010 was the last December pheasant release around here.

Ask the old timers like me, or, perhaps call Jeff Pritzl, DNR’s New Deer Program Specialist. He lived here and knows me, Chris Thomas, DC, retired.

Merry Christmas (?) to all

Chris is am a hour south west of you. I myself would have to travel for the Christmas hunt. I apologize I thought you were up north. I agree with you it would be nice if they also released in the central part of the state.

I thought they just started the holiday hunt a couple of years ago.  Am I wrong? I think it started in 2017.

The DNR stopped Christmas pheasant releases up here in 2010.

I was there. Hunting in Wisconsin since 1980. Snow was not less then, regardless of climate warming.

What about the folks looking at hip or knee replacement? Cancer patients? Need I go on?

Why not rotate a Christmas release around the state?

Why not give us an extra large release or two,  a week or two before deer hunting?

Lots of ways to be fair. All I ask is for even-handedness with our stamp fees.

Only having a Christmas release in the bottom half of the state is just not fair-handed.

Where are you located?  Come on over here to Manitowoc and try your chances with your 73-year-old father. Call me and I'll treat you both to a great lunch. I'm an empty nester. I have lots of empty rooms. I would be happy to feed you and give you a place to sleep if you get snowed in. My father is gone. I would give anything to be able to hunt with him again. God Bless both of you.

Merry Christmas (?) to all

Chris I will say this based on my last post. Went out today put up 8 ROOSTERS shot at 5 took home 3 2 guys and an 11 year old. Couldn't have worse condition cold with 20+ mph winds. Dog busted her tail off. Did you ever consider the fact you dont get a holiday release by you is because of snow cover. Mind you where we hunted I would take my 73 year old father with me it was no a!! busting cover to get through. I had property back in the day that would make guys jealous all wild birds. Get out and hunt. Be out tomorrow on my regular spots will post again.

You should always go out and hunt if you can

Birds are out there

Welcome to reality.  Birds are becoming difficult to find in most instances

Mostly found in the nastiest of terrain.

Maybe a few are chased out by deer hunters

I depend on this and was out there Monday and Tuesday.

The very old, infirm, and disabled. are not hiding in the ditches waiting for the pheasant truck. If they were, God Bless them,  they are still going out,  and I personally would look in the other direction.

They buy the stamps too. They deserve consideration, such as the same access to birds as the south half of the state.

The Wisconsin DNR AKA  The Grinch Stole Christmas, for some reason thinks the bottom half of the state gets a Christmas (?) release but not the rest of us.

We all buy stamps

Most pay taxes supporting the properties

What gives?

Simple as that

Merry Christmas (?) to all

Looking forward to another month of the season. During deer season, I spend more time driving around looking for empty field it seems like opposed to hunting. I just want to be courteous and not screw up anyone else’s hunt.

Even with the dnr not stocking, we saw plenty of birds over the deer season. One guy stopped on the road to watch us pop a rooster. He came over and laughed, said he was with a group of 6 guys who just pushed the area I got the bird. Laughed that they didn’t kick it up. He stated it must be nice to have a good dog. It is.

Be safe, be kind, shoot straight and Merry Christmas.

All you intrepid pheasant hunters are welcome to come

north in the state and try your luck.

Enjoy the scenery and weather and the totality of the hunt.

Are birds out there? Yes

I still get a few.

Where no one else wants to walk to or walk out.

Last year I got a rooster last day of the season.

Infirm and disabled hunters can be at a huge disadvantage in these conditions. They pay taxes for the properties and buy a stamp. Just like you.

I still feel the Wisconsin Darn Near Russians should be more even-handed in their Christmas (?)  release.

We all pay for the stamp.

Does the southern Christmas (?) release of roosters enable more birds to survive and somehow breed for next year?

For gosh sake Bong Gets 11,000 birds per season. Five times that of the Kettle Moraine properties with a small portion of their huntable space

Follow the money. Your stamp money.

Merry Christmas (?) to all

Interesting to note: the Darn Near Russians have just dropped the ability to call up Bong in Kansasville and Kettle Moraine in Walworth County to look at huntable acres and bird release numbers. Only Kettle Moraine in Sheboygan county, 5,200 acres, and 2,740 birds is left on the website. https://dnr.wi.gov/pheasantstocking/

Got back to work Monday after being off the week of deer season. Talked to a buddy about his deer season he hunts public land 1st comment was what are you doing next weekend. He doesn't have a bird dog. Says where he was hunting he had roosters cackling every morning and seen them flying back and forth. Guess where me him his son and my dog will be Saturday morning. Public land I pheasant hunt I walked during gun season and kicked up birds while deer hunting. There are birds still out there get out and hunt. To me its all about watching my dog trained her myself. Pulling the trigger is the easy part. I can hunt the holiday release areas if I would want to but not going to deal with every Tom Dick and Harry hitting those spots because of the recent releases. Get out and hunt if you have a decent dog you will find birds get off the beaten path. I plan on at least 6 to 10 more birds to get shot over my dog by the end of the season and the last time any birds were  released on the areas I hunt will be over 2 weeks ago.

Horray for the Wisconsin DNR, Darned Near Russians

The Russian's Christmas pheasant release only neglects more than half of the state.

Gosh, "Bong Pheasant Ranch", only, already gets 11,000 pheasants which we paid for with our stamps to re-sell for even more profit

Plus,  the Russians are also releasing all around Bong as well as Madison for our politicians.

Merry Christmas to all
