I’m not sure how common it is, but the first Tom I ever harvested had three beards.

I've killed a few multiple bearded birds. My biggest bird ever weighed 28#, had 3 beards and 1.5" spurs. I think I've killed 4 or 5 that had two beards...including this bird from April 24 this year, which had 10.5" and 11.25" beards and 1.25" spurs.

Sorry the pic kinds sucks...I was by myself and had to prop my phone up with a stick and use the Smile Shutter to snap a few photos.

I haven’t harvested a turkey with multiple beards. I did have a bearded hen that came around my blind several times. I usually didn’t pay much attention to her, but one time she got within 20 feet of my blind and I thought there was a second beard. Used the spotting scope to confirm that, one beard was 6” and pencil size the others about 4” and lighter yet.

Got this one this spring. He was close enough when I killed him to see it. His buddy with him only had a one.

Genetics. Once a turkey grows past the Jake (juvenile) stage, beard size and number has nothing to do with age.
