Hey guys, this is my first attempt at a fan mount. What do you think? I'm thinking I should have left a few more layers of tail feathers on the fan. I used pickling salt to dry it out, seemed to work pretty good. I know a lot of other people use Borax. Who else has done fan mounts themselves and has ideas?

Looks real good three toes. You could add these rosettes that are made from fall leaves. I can make one in like five minutes. They add a neat touch to a fall or hunting theme. No, I'm not queer lol.

I assume you used floral foam, and arranged these feathers in the foam?

I like those Pete. I have too many mounts in the house. I have tried other things like this wreath.

I make a cardboard disc from thin cardboard, and bought some fabric from a fabric shop. Just glue the fabric to the cardpoard and hold until dry with paper clips. You can make these very cheap, the fabric matches the feather pattern and color nicely. Simply keep some of the back feathers that I remove, flesh, and dry seperately from the tail fan. Borax, allow to dry, and glue everything to a thin cardboard template with a wall hanger. Then glue the disc to the feathers to cover the downy feathers that are often exposed on fan mounts. These line the walls of my garage.

My dad made two like this, we each have one. We dropped 2 birds on top of each other one morning and he made 2 matching plaques for them. I also have a couple small wood burns that I'm contemplating cutting open and see what they look like.
