Last year...my daughter (age 10) used a 410 with turkey choke with TTS. Borrowed it from a buddy cause he bought one last year with a red dot. She missed a Tom at 18 yards that came into the decoys, boy that barrel was shaking. Tom runs way out and I got another shell in for her. Total her to settle herself down and shoot at him again. She dropped him at 49 yards.her first turkey

Now, i don't recommend kids shooting that far but I had shot it at 65 and felt very comfortable. It was our last day and she had missed already so I told her to shoot again. She had hunted for 5 days straight

Needless to say, I went and bought my own gun this year. Same 410 with a turkey choke and red dot. Very little recoil and fits her perfectly. Shot with with 4 shot turkey load max is 30 yards. TTS I'd say max is around 75 yards.

Optimism for the upcoming season. Some backyard visitors from a few days ago.

My son shot his 1st tom with a 410 3" shell at 19 paces. It can be done. I prefer the 12ga 3 1/2" mixed heavy shot.

With the TSS tungsten super shot it is a very capable load. Giving you a much lighter gun to tote around the woods. You still need to keep in mind the capabilities of your gun and look for the close up encounters rather than long ranges.

Seeing .410 shotguns advertising for Turkey hunting....is it a viable option?..

Zone 1, period C.  Hunt private land in Lafeyette county.  The turkey numbers have been down the last few years but between seeing, hearing birds while deer hunting and sightings over the winter i think they've rebounded a bit.  Gobble, Gobble!

I received zone 2 period D. But as a non-resident, very rarely do I draw anything earlier. Was hoping I could apply as a land owner with my 40 acres near Brussels, but you need a minimum of 50 acres for that. I'll also try for a left over tag for zone 1 for my buddy's place not far from Mauston.
