Has anyone ever smoked a bluegill? If so how was it? I thinking about smoking some bluegill this ice fishing season and possibly making a cream cheese based spread.

Have smoked many types of fish but never a bluegill. If I would do that I would scale gut and remove the head and smoke whole. The low fat content of a bluegill may not yield the best results as high fat (oil) fish tend to smoke better.

You wouldn't have to fillet them either, you could just gut them cut the head off

My thoughts exactly. I always fry them too. But I'm really intrigued by this idea
