PICKED UP AN OLDER STRIKEMASTER GAS(25-1) 10 INCH AUGER. QUESTIONS

So I am going to start ice fishing this year.  I have never done it before so I bought this OLD auger from my best friend that had not used it in like forever.  We dumped the oil(gas all evaporated) from the tank, put in some new gas and dang if it didn't start right up and run like a champ.  I took it to the local lake today to do a test drill and man it sucked.

Took me like 3 minutes to drill through 4 inches.  The drill was wobbling around and actually drilled a hole that was more like 12 inches. Not fun.  I thought maybe the blades were dull and sure enough, lots of dents and dings so I looked online for new ones and found them but they are all straight and mine have a curve to them.  See attached pics.

What is wrong with this drill?  It has no center point or guide of any kind.  Is that right??  I think that is why it wobbles all over the place.

I do not believe the problem is with the ice blades, although they may need to be replaced.  The problem is with a worn out bearing located below the power head and out of sight.   A worn out bearing will cause wobbling on any shaft it is supposed to keep in line when it is turning.   Thus the shaft going to the blades will wobble and not allow the blades to cut straight down.     If you don't want to fix it yourself a local small engine repair shop should be able to replace the bearing without spending a lot of money. 

check and see if auger is bent. Order blades from strikemaster

Sounds like you need new blades.   I have a Strikemaster Mag Lazer 10 inch auger that's got to be 20 years old or so.  The 1st time I used it, it wouldn't cut for crap.  Put new blades on it and it's a real champ.  It cuts like butter.

Not a good year to buy anything!

Try sending blades out to a resharpening service. Should have them back shortly.

Google blade sharpening and a couple sites should come up. Freight to send in was around 7 each way, lot cheaper than new blades.

I thought all strikemasters used curved bladed.  At least my old back up does.

Is there a spot for a guide point to be mounted?
