It's coming. Northern MN lakes are starting to be covered in a skim layer. Red Lake has ice for as far one can see. It's almost here!!
The challenge with that trip is timing from what I have heard. If you schedule it for when there is sure to be safe ice, you will likely miss peak fishing. If you schedule for peak time, there maybe not safe ice.
I would ask about cancellation policy in event of ice safety concerns and ask a lot of questions on how the guide evaluates ice, how many days they guide out on Erie and what their experience has been in years past, etc.
