Anyone else angered these two have been discontinued? Been using Hideouts for many years, not happy I'm going to have to change. I think I used to pay $300 for them. Nothing out there that is going to fish 3 comfortably, weigh 50lbs, and hold all my gear for ANY amount these days. Crying

Raven3 I have a small Sno-boat that has maybe been used 4 times, still smells brand new. I have the larger one and a few other one man shelters, would consider parting with it. Shoot me a message back if interested.

I have a hideout and new to ice fishing and love it . Tons of room and can stand up in it. I was out today and it was windy and I wasn't prepared for it but from reading some other posts I am going to secure it down by the pull rope into the wind just like a boat!!!!!!keep on fishin!!! Big Smile

I for one get frustrated with trying to find a used snow boat. I am looking for the one man boat. The smaller one. I have tow of the bigger ones. Nylon and canvas I wouldn't part with them for anything that's out there now. I fish them when the chill factor was 60 below and blowing hard. You anchor the pull rope first into the wind. With a home made stake made out of a one quarter inch rod with a spacer welded on the end use a claw hammer to drive it in and also to pull them out works slick.I have four short ropes on the apron rod one on the corners one in the middle the other to goes next to the sled. I also put one on the back with the to bunge cords stretched out. Drill four holes a boot length apart put to Coleman lanterns between every other hole. You have light heat and it keeps your holes from icing over. I put a piece of carpet in the bottom use a nice lawn chair.my feet stay warm there not setting on the ice. There's plenty of room by yourself or for two. Back in the late 70s and 80s that was the tent to have. Three of us use to go every weekend. Stack all three of the boats on top of each other in the back of a pickup and gear. Looking to find the smaller boat lighter. The seat and bracket on a clam weighs 17lbs my lawn chair is 5lbs. That's find and dandy if you can afford a ATV trailer then hauling it on icy conditions

Thanks for the tip Slushybeer. I'll email them and see about buying a shell or two. The wind can be an issue, but if you have a partner to stay in the shanty, or don't need to leave yourself, these shanties can't be beat.

Got my snow boat in 1986 for xmas. I love it even though the zipper no longer works " I use large paper binder clips to seal the door" there are cracks in the windows and a few holes in the fabric. Best ice shack made in my opinion. Don't like anything on the market now and the prices are too darn high.

I still enjoy my original sno-boat thats in great shape. I drilled holes in all the corners of the molded floor and screwed in eye bolts. Simply take a small hammer and tap in 10" screw eye bolts from menards and you're good to go in the wind. While I wish I had a zipper door on BOTH ends (and more windows) like the Shappels, you can't be the molded floor (I cut a piece of carpet runner from menards the size of the floor, and put it on top to protect the windows and fabric when getting on and off the ice). Mine is Navy blue color, can't remember the year I bought it but has to be close to 30 years now... Still works great, no holes, sprayed Camp dry on it last fall, really helped with the condensation. Its nice to have your feet inside a molded sled with carpet, to keep warmer and dry.....

I was able to get a brand new shell (fabric) straight from Frabill for the hideout. This was a little over a year ago so not sure if they still have them. This was also when they were still in Jackson, WI and I've heard that since then they've moved to Indiana.

I have one I got from my grandpa about 20 years ago. So the thing is probably first edition cause he had it for awhile. The canvas in bad shape right now and the zippers are hard to use. I would love to find someone that could replace the canvas. It is by far the best tent to take kids out. Only bad thing is they are not very good in the wind. My son 4 at the time could of set a ice speed record on the lake one day. Cool Scared me he was having the time of his life. Shappell ones are different they have the hatch you have to open for the ice hole.

I just sold my hideout last year with a brand new shell (fabric) on it. The ONLY thing I liked was that it folded flat so could fit in my taurus. Once it got windy that thing was just a sail. Wish I would've known people like these, I think I sold it for $100.
