Best cordless drill to use on a k drill

I'm almost ready to pull the trigger on getting the k drill. But I have a few questions. First, what is the best drill to pair up with the k drill? I've seen mostly Milwaukee 18 volt brushless, but is there anything better? Does it need to be brushless? Second, how many inches of ice should I expect to drill on 1 battery? If there's anything else from someone who owns one that I should know I would appreciate it.

Herb, it is a brushless. Deciding if I want to unload it on an unsuspecting pawn shop (like the way I got it lol) since it drives screws, drills holes and cuts holes with a hole saw adapter just fine, or look into having it repaired and selling it.

Or if anyone is handy and wants to make an offer on it, let me know. DCD996.

Hockey  guy

Check the motor for brushes. If was used it may be time for tune up!

The brushless ones are newer.

Be careful when you run it that you don't go too crazy on the "throttle" as it's pretty easy to do.  Wound up having to buy a new drill (the Dewalt 999) on Saturday as the 996 I'd bought (used, mind you) apparently burned something up inside.

Do not use it on hammer. Look around the collar of the chuck, it will have numbers which are torque settings for screws, then it will have a drill symbol amd a hammer symbol. You should have it on the drill symbol and "1". That should be the high torque slow speed setting on top the drill.

Cat,

it does have a ‘hammer’,

So is that the setting to use?

I've been using a Milwaukee - 18 for a long time. But get a hammer drill. Tougher gears

I believe you want to be on Drill (not screw) and #1.

So I bought a Milwaukee 2804-22.

What is the best setting to use when drilling ice?

Nothing in the manual??

Thanks!

Gordon, You're good to go with anything using that drill.
