what Caliber do you feel is to small for coyotes?
There's a little fine print about a WI resident shooting a coyote in MI in the regs, not that anyone would care much about it.
When trapping, i put them down with a 22lr. Lots of friends hunt with 223's and at 200-250 they are still very effective. We've had some shot at 150 yrds with a 204 and 17HMR that we didn't recover. I wouldn't want any of my clients shooting a 22mag at them over 75yrds without a good quartered away shot.
I have a .17 HMR and I've killed a couple with it, but the shots were close, 50 yards or less. I was hoping to call in a bobcat when I was carrying it.

A 22 or 22mag would be fine at close range or you can set up your 12ga?
I use a mod choke with #4 buck. Good out to 75 yards for me.
